As a member of Hållbarhetsklivet, we actively work towards a more sustainable visitor industry and strive to inspire other businesses, suppliers, and guests to engage in environmental and sustainability efforts.

Sustainability at Håveruds Hotell

At Håveruds Hotell, sustainability is not an add-on, it is a natural part of everything we do. Our guiding principle is simple: to do the right thing from the start.

Responsible building and preservation

When renovating and improving, we prioritize restoring and reusing instead of buying new. This saves resources and preserves the unique character of our location by the Dalsland Canal.

Collaboration for a vibrant community

We work closely with Mellerud Municipality and local businesses around Upperudshöljen to improve connections and create more experiences for our guests. Through joint events and projects, we strengthen both the destination and the hospitality sector in Håverud.

Experiences with nature in focus

We want to inspire our guests to discover the amazing nature that surrounds us. That’s why we offer rentals of canoes, kayaks, and even a boat with an electric motor, perfect for excursions along the Dalsland Canal. We also highlight the many hiking trails and cycling routes in the area and are always happy to share tips.

Sustainable food and reduced waste

In our restaurant, we work with advance bookings as much as possible, allowing us to plan better and minimize food waste. All meals are prepared from scratch, and we prioritize locally produced and seasonal ingredients. We always use meat from Sweden. Buffets, such as breakfast, are adapted to the number of guests to avoid unnecessary waste, for example, vegetables not used at dinner may be turned into a delicious omelet for the breakfast buffet.

Energy, and resource-efficient operations

We continuously strive to reduce our climate impact through energy-saving measures, including:

• Gradually introducing LED lighting throughout the hotel

• Lowering the heating in unused rooms and facilities

• Cleaning only when needed during longer stays, unless the guest requests otherwise

• Consistently using eco-labeled cleaning and hygiene products

• Providing organic, Swedish-made hygiene products

• Using a limited number of suppliers = fewer transports

• Installed 2 charging stations for electric cars

• Reducing plastics for storage as well as for single use items

An inclusive and welcoming place

Everyone is equally welcome with us, regardless of background, age, religion, gender, or disability. We aim to provide a warm and respectful reception and offer adjustments to meet individual needs,  for example, allergy-friendly options. As a workplace, we provide ongoing training and development.

Longer stays and nature inspired decorations

Our newly built apartments and lakeside cottage make it possible for guests to stay longer and experience more of Dalsland. Even our decorations reflect our sustainability mindset, all flowers and arrangements come from the surrounding nature.
